Google Universal Analytics is being replaced by Google Analytics 4
The normal Google Analytics, as we know it, will soon be gone. It will be replaced by Google Analytics 4, “GA4” next summer.
You might have seen the warning, and tried creating a GA4 property, but then got stuck? Don’t worry, we did that in the beginning as well, but now after a number of installations we know how to do it. If you want to future proof your Google Analytics account, just let us know, and we will set it up correctly for you.
On July 1, 2023, standard Google Analytics properties will no longer process data. You’ll be able to see your Universal Analytics reports for a period of time after July 1, 2023. However, new data will only flow into Google Analytics 4 properties.
Google recommends to have this done now, so that you can keep parallell tracking on for a year.
3rd-party cookie phase out
During 2023 Google will also phase out 3rd-party cookies, which means that it would be good if you have a strategy for 1st-party data, for example by using a Server side tagging solution. Luckily, it is possible to build such a solution with in integration of GA4+BigQuery data export.
